Amazon Bedrock: managed GenAI for teams already on AWS
Bedrock gives you many foundation models behind one API, without running any infrastructure — and keeps your data inside your AWS boundary. Here's what it is and who it fits.
If your company already runs on AWS, there's a good chance your GenAI will too — and Amazon Bedrock is the front door. It's a managed service that puts a range of foundation models behind a single API, with no servers for you to run and your data kept inside your AWS environment.
What it is
Bedrock is serverless access to foundation models from multiple providers — Anthropic's Claude, Meta's Llama, Mistral, Amazon's own Titan and Nova, and more — through one consistent API. You don't provision GPUs or manage deployments; you call the model and pay for what you use.
What you get beyond raw models
- Knowledge Bases — managed RAG over your own data with a few clicks.
- Agents — orchestration that lets models call your APIs to complete tasks.
- Guardrails — configurable safety filters for inputs and outputs.
- Data governance — requests stay within your AWS boundary, with IAM, VPC, and compliance controls enterprises need.
Who it's for
Bedrock shines for enterprises already invested in AWS that want managed GenAI without the infrastructure burden — and that care deeply about where their data goes. If you're outside the AWS ecosystem or want the absolute newest model the day it drops, going direct or through a gateway may suit you better. Inside AWS, Bedrock is the path of least resistance.
Bedrock's pitch isn't the models — everyone has those. It's getting them without leaving the security, billing, and compliance boundary you already trust.
